Microneedling Q&A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive facial treatment that encourages your skin’s natural revitalization process.

The aesthetic tool used for microneedling creates tiny, precise puncture wounds in the surface layer of your skin. These puncture wounds simulate an injury, triggering your skin’s natural healing process to “repair” the damage (without damaging your skin).

Part of your skin’s healing powers involves increasing the production of collagen, a fibrous protein found in the dermal layer of your skin that provides structure and strength. Your skin’s collagen declines as you age and is one of the contributing factors to the visible signs of aging — lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

By stimulating collagen production, microneedling revitalizes your skin’s youthful strength and look.

What does microneedlng treat?

Many people elect to have microneedling to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. But the minimally invasive aesthetic treatment is more than an anti-aging tool. Some of the skin concerns Dr. Johnson treats with microneedling include:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Large pores
  • Minor scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Burns
  • Freckles

Microneedling also evens out skin tone and complexion, brightening your look. Dr. Johnson may combine your microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to accelerate the healing process.

Dr. Johnson doesn’t recommend microneedling as a treatment for acne.

What does microneedling feel like?

You may feel some pressure during your microneedling but no pain. Dr. Johnson is an expert aesthetic physician at Rejuvenation For Her and applies a numbing lotion to your skin before your microneedling to minimize discomfort.

During your treatment, she places the microneedling tool on your skin to create the puncture wounds. Treatment usually takes an hour or less.

You may have skin redness and swelling following your microneedling, but you can return to your usual activities the next day. After the minimally invasive cosmetic treatment, some people also report dryness, stinging, and tingling.

When can I expect to see results from microneedling?

You may see improvements in the tone and texture of your skin soon after your microneedling session, but it takes time for your skin to rebuild collagen, and results peak within 4-6 months.

Most Rejuvenation For Her patients return every few months to repeat their microneedling and maintain their results.
